Why is The Foundry launching now?

The Foundry has been in the works since the fall of 2019, and our original launch date was scheduled for August 18, 2020. Needless to say, we have had to reschedule the launch in order to be a good neighbor in San Antonio and prevent the reckless spread of the Coronavirus. So why launch now, in the presence of the Delta variant and the uncertain future regarding the pandemic?

All this time, we have followed some pretty simple, yet important, rules to help guide our decision making. First, The Foundry has always sought to Do No Harm. When the pandemic was in full swing during the summer of 2020, that meant postponing the launch altogether. Now, in the summer of 2021, we still believe in choosing caution and being wise in our interactions with each other to help mitigate the spread of germs. We will encourage people who attend Community Nights to wear masks and maintain appropriate distance. We will respect and abide by the standards implemented in our partner churches where Foundry events occur and Foundry groups gather. We will remain vigilant and as transparent as possible about the risks associated with gatherings of people.

Yet we also follow another rule simultaneously: Do Good. Since March of 2020, the Coronavirus has not been the only foe that our community has faced.  Isolation, anxiety, depression, purposelessness, and fear have swept through homes and hearts with as much ferocity as any virus we’ve ever faced. Now, with the availability of several highly-effective vaccines, and armed with some knowledge on how to gather in ways that reduce risk of communal spread, we believe that not gathering would be detrimental to people who are seeking what The Foundry can offer to them.
